Thrilling one run victory for Club XI

The Club XI led by former test cap Chandika Hathurusinghe pulled off a thrilling one run win over the Sri Lanka 'A' team on the third day of their BCCSL Quadrangular cricket tournament match played at the Police Park, Bambalapitiya yesterday.

Chasing 175 runs to win the last pair of the Sri Lanka 'A' team Nisitha Rupasinghe and Dharshana Gamage brought them closer towards that total before Hathurusinghe came in and picked up the final wicket with the score at 174.

Club XI: 223 and 108.

Sri Lanka 'A': 156 and 174 (Gayan Wijekoon 45, Malinda Warnapura 15, Dharshana Gamage 13, Nisitha Rupasinghe 11 n.o, Nandika Ranjith 4 for 43, Chandika Hathurusinghe 3 for 45).

Daniel unbeaten 140

Opener Ian Daniel hit a superb unbeaten 140 with two sixes and 18 fours as the under 23 team chasing 325 runs to win reached 268 for 6 in their second innings on the third day of their BCCSL Quadrangular cricket tournament match against the Sri Lanka Schools side played at the NCC grounds, Maitland Place yesterday.

Sri Lanka Schools: 117 and 352

Under 23: 144 and 268 for 6 (Ian Daniel 140 n.o, Thilina Kandambi 45, Kaushalya Weeraratne 22 n.o, Suraj Mohamed 2 for 52). Samantha 84

Roshan Samantha hit a fine 84 as Gurukula MV took major honours in their 16th Battle of Kelaniya Big Match against the traditional rivals Dharmaloka MV which ended in a draw at the R. Premadasa Stadium yesterday.

Dharmaloka MV: 201 for 8 decl and 171 for 6 decl (N. Suranga 21, V. Sampath 52, T. Anuradha 50, S. Lakshan 24, K. Chameera 3 for 19, M. Pushpakumara 2 for 35). Gurukula MV: 253 (Roshan Sampath 84, Chandima Janaka 39, Kusala Chameera 32, Buddhi Prasanna 36, Manoj Pushpakumara 18, S. Dilprabha 17, Sumudu Lakshan 7 for 67, M. Sankalpa 2 for 64) and 10 for 1.

Fighting half 'ton'

Maduranga Soysa hit a fighting half century (53) and guided Lumbini MV to an exciting two wicket win over their traditional rivals President's College in their annual limited overs cricket encounter played at the SSC grounds, Maitland Place yesterday. President's College: 171 in 48 overs (C. Kodituwakku 13, D. Ranatunga 17, P. Chaturanga 27, S. Perera 13, S. Niroshan 34). Lumbini MV: 172 for 8 in 49 overs (M. Perera 12, P. Nishantha 21, M.
