by Ranga Jayasuriya The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission said it was unable to hold the LTTE responsible for the abortive attack on the Lanka Muditha since no evidence to back the charge had been found. The SLMM said it was now inquiring from the Navy and the LTTE about the incident. The SLMM's inability to rule on the recent sea clashes has drawn criticism from the Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) leader Douglas Devananda. In a hard hitting letter to SLMM Chief Trygve Telefsen, Devananda accused the SLMM of absolving the LTTE of the attack on the Chinese trawler by suggesting that the act could have been committed some other armed group. He reminded the SLMM that the LTTE was the only armed group in Sri Lanka which could move with impunity in the seas off Mullaitivu.
