by Rashomi Silva

Power and Energy Minister Karu Jayasuriya inaugurated three rural electrification schemes in LTTE controlled areas in the Batticaloa District last Monday.

The rural electrification projects inaugurated at Karadiyanaru, Pankudaceli and Illupadicheni cost around 15 million rupees. They will provide electricity to more than 500 families.

A rice processing mill and 30 milk chilling centres will also be benefited by the electrification scheme, the Minister added.

The Minister met several key LTTE Eastern Province leaders at Karadiyanaru. They praised Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Minister Jayasuriya for their untiring efforts to provide electricity to the North and East provinces and for takeing a genuine interest in uplifting the living standards of the people. They pledged that the LTTE will not resume war in the future.

Health Nutrition and Welfare Minister P. Dayaratne and Tourism Minister Gamini Lokuge were also present.
