PM calls for report on A/L examination schedule

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe called for an immediate report on this year's GCE Advanced Level Examination schedule during the Vesak season, from the Secretary of the Ministry of Education, a communique issued by the Prime Minister's office said yesterday.

The Communique added that the Prime Minister has already obtained a report regarding the dates fixed for this year's April holidays too. Accordingly the government has decided to conclude April holidays this year on May 5. This will enable all schools to organise special Vesak programmes during the Vesak season. The second part of the GCE Advanced Level examination will be conducted after Vesak Poya. The actual dates will be announced by the Education Ministry soon.

Meanwhile the Education Minister Dr. Karunasena Kodituwakku when contacted by the Daily News said they have already decided upon the dates for the new A/L time table which has been changed in view of Vesak celebrations.

Thus the examination will commence as scheduled on April 21 and continue till May 3. Then after a two-week holiday it will recommence on May 19 and will end on May 30.
