The annual Staff Convention for the year 2003 and Awards for Excellence in the year 2002 was held jointly for Janashakthi Insurance Company Limited & National Insurance Corporation Limited for the 2nd consecutive year, at the BMICH recently.

Undoubtedly one of the leading players in Sri Lanka's insurance market, with a consolidated annual turnover of Rs. 1.9 Billion in Life and General Insurance business. Janashakthi has kept up the tradition of conducting the annual awards ceremony from its inception. Since 2000 the staff convention is also held on the same day. The staff convention, which appreciates special achievements by staff as well as their academic and professional qualifications was held this year with the participation of 1,250 members collectively from JICL & NICL. The Chairman of Janashakthi, Desamanya Nissanka Wijewardane presided at the Annual Staff Convention, while the Guest of Honour for the occasion was the Director General of the Insurance Board of Sri Lanka, Dr. Dayanath Jayasooriya.

Two members from NICL received awards for a 20 year service record and 1 for 10 years of service while 57 staff members from JICL & NICL received awards for 5 years of service. The staff convention while evaluating the progress made in the previous year, sets out the plan for the coming year. The company believes that this motivates the staff to achieve the corporate objectives more meaningfully.

The Awards for Excellence Ceremony is held annually in recognition of field staff for their outstanding sales achievements. Chairman, Desamanya Nissanka Wijewardane was the chief guest and it was attended by both 1,250 staff members and 400 top agents. At the ceremony, 11 Gold, 9 Silver, 8 Bronze and 30 Merit awards were given away to the Janashakthi and National Insurance staff members who excelled in their respective fields. A special feature in this year's ceremony was the presence of staff and agents from Jaffna, Trincomalee, Vavuniya and Batticaloa Branches, for the first time ever, at both functions.

At this year's ceremony, the Chairman's Award in the Life Insurance category was bagged by Milton Silva, Area Representative of the Kantale Branch and P.C. Wishwaka, Senior Business Promotion Executive at the Head Office of JICL received the award in the General Insurance category. The entertainment for the occasion was provided mainly by talented company staff who excelled at the Janashakthi staff talent show held in 2002, in the form of songs, skits, etc., while the song 'Api Okkoma Rajawaru' sung by veteran singer Victor Ratnayake and a comic drama Charitha Hathak by Wilson Gunaratne was also part of the entertainment provided.

The Board of Directors comprises, Desamanya Nissanka Wijewardane, Chairman C.T.A. Schaffter, Managing Director, Tryphon R. Mirando, Director Marketing, Prakash Schaffter, Director/General Manager, L.C.R. de C. Wijetunge, W.T. Ellawala, N. Pararajasingham, K. Dharmasiri and Ramesh Schaffter (Alternate Director).
