Joe-Pete clash for Fr. Peter A. Pillai Shield

The 30th annual limited over cricket encounter between the traditional rivals St. Joseph's and St. Peter's for the Rev. Fr. Peter A. Pillai Shield will be worked off on March 8 (Saturday) at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium with play commencing at 9.00 a.m.

This years match is sponsored by MTN Networks Limited and co sponsored by Sun FM, Ceylon Cold Stores and Mast Lanka Limited. The match will be played with the players attired in coloured clothing for the first time using a white ball. St. Joseph's are currently leading the series with 16 wins to their credit while St. Peter's have won the Shield on 12 occasions. The 2001 match was tied. St. Peter's are the holders of the Shield having won last years encounter under the captaincy of Jehan Jayasuriya. St. Joseph's recorded their previous win in the series in 1999 under the captaincy of Roshan de Silva.

Ranjan de Silva who represented St. Joseph's from 1972 to 1974 will be the chief guest.

In addition to the Fr. Peter A. Pillai Shield there will be awards for Best Batsman (Rev. Fr. Noel Perera Trophy), Best Bowler (Augustine Fernando Trophy), Best Fielder (Rev. Fr. Joe Wickramasinghe Trophy) and Man of the Match (Luxman Goonewardena Trophy).

St. Peter's: (from) Nadhula de S. Wijeyeratne (Captain), Samiddha Gallage (vice captain), Gihan de Silva, Prajeev Jansz, Shanaka Wickremasekera, Hans Fernando, Shehan Wijeratne, Ramesh Subasinghe, akitha Rupasinghe, Dinesh Panditharatne, Dasun Randika, Dilan Gurusinghe, Sohan Boralessa, Heshan nayakkara, Lahiru Peiris and Prabuddha Perera.
