Tigers release soldier and policeman

The LTTE yesterday released the two servicemen held in its custody, ending a nearly three-month standoff with the Government.LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran ordered the release of private Nimal Kumara and Reserve Constable Gunasekara complying with the request of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM).

Committees to strengthen Parliament

The Government yesterday submitted proposals for sweeping changes in Parliament with view to strengthening the legislature.The proposals submitted to all party leaders envisage changes to the Standing Orders and for a greater role to the various committees in the affairs of public business.
