First Lankan scholar at Max-Plank Research Institute Under the International Max-Plank Research Institute of Germany, a Sri Lankan has been awarded a full scholarship to persuade in his PhD thesis through its newly formed research institute based in Hamburg. It is the first time that a Sri Lankan lawyer has won this scholarship to write his doctoral thesis in the field of International Commercial Maritime Law. Malika Gunasekera, an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka has received this rare privilege upon the successful completion of his Masters of Laws Degree in International Law at University of Utrecht, The Netherlands.
The Sri Lanka National Robot Olympiad- 2003, organised by the TEC Sri Lanka Computer Educational institute will be held in Colombo in October 2003. The competition which is conducted in two levels, primary and secondary level will be held in conjunction with the LEGO Educational Division (LED). The selected two teams will be represented at the International Robot Olympiad scheduled to be held in South Korea in November this year. Chairman TEC Sri Lanka Niranjan Nanayakkara said that it was a pleasure to organise this competition in Sri Lanka at a time our younger generation focus more attention towards the learning of Information Technology (IT). The Robot Olympiad is a science, technology and educational event conducted for the benefit of schoolchildren and undergraduates. The chief of the LEGO Educational Aids in South East Asia Lim Chenge Pier said that the knowledge gained by students about robots would fuel their scientific and engineering ideas and help serve human beings in a variety of ways. Manager, Administration and Operations, TEC Sri Lanka Sugath Subasinghe said that LED is a dedicated arm of the LEGO company that develops learning concepts that inspire students to use their creativity and curiosity by experiencing things themselves. He further said that his company has made arrangements to demonstrate all LED products to schoolchildren and other interested parties, so that they could obtain a thorough knowledge about robots which will be the way to the future. |
