A Senior Superintendent of Police has filed a Rs 10.million defamation suit in District Court of Colombo.

In this case the petitioner, SSP Gamini Wijesuriya has cited DIG Punya de Silva, SSP Asoka Wijetilaka and Deepal Dalpadadu and five others as respondents.

The Petitioner states that he is an SSP in the Sri Lanka Police Department and that on January 8, 2001, the third respondent with a team of policemen had searched his house with a warrant from the Magistrate's Court of Colombo. However they failed to recover any suspected items from the house.

The Petitioner further states that he was arrested on January 15,2001 on false charges of possessing suspected items. He was produced before Court and was granted bail.Later Petitioner was interdicted.

After an inquiry conducted by the Public Service Commission, Petitioner was acquitted and discharged from all charges framed against him.
