Pakistan air force chief, 16 others die in crash ISLAMABAD, Feb 20 (Reuters) - The commander of Pakistan's air force, Air Chief Marshal Mushaf Ali Mir, and 16 other people were killed when a military plane crashed in northwest Pakistan on Thursday, the air force said. Air force spokesman Air Commodore Sarfraz Ahmed Khan told Reuters the debris of the Fokker-27 aircraft had been found 27 km (17 miles) east of the town of Kohat. He said the cause of the crash was not yet known. "There are no survivors. We have found the wreckage," another military spokesman, Brigadier Saulat Raza, told Reuters. The aircraft had been on a flight from Islamabad, 116 km (72 miles) east of Kohat, state media reported. A highly placed source, who did not want to be identified, said among those aboard with Mir were his wife and two other air marshals. Khan confirmed there were other senior officers on the plane, but gave no details. |
