Thilina and Deepika lead TT teams for Asian C'ships

Thilina Piyadasa of Sri Jayawardenapura University and Deepika Rodrigo of Lake House SC will captain the Sri Lanka men's and women's table tennis teams for the Asian table tennis championships which will be staged from February 22 to 28 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The tournament is conducted by the Thailand TT Association with the consent of the Asian Table Tennis Union. The Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka have decided to field an eight member team with the intention of giving the much needed exposure to the players ahead of the SAF Games in Pakistan.

The Sri Lanka men's team will comprise of Thilina Piyadasa, Indika Prasad (Abans), Chalitha Ranjana (Citi Bank) and Rohan Sirisena (Three Star SC). The women's team includes Deepika Rodrigo, Kalpani Herath (Girls High School Kandy), Saranga de Silva (Dharmasoka) and Dilini Madawala (Pushpadana). The two officials accompanying the team are P. D. Ratnasiri (manager) and Aruna Samarasinghe (ATTU Congress Delegate).

The Sri Lanka men's team is drawn along with Hong Kong, Philippines and Brunei while the women's team will battle it out with North Korea and Brunei. At the previous championships held in Qatar the Sri Lanka men's and women's team finished 11th and 15th respectively. (C.D).
