Postal service will be modernised, says Imthiaz

The government will modernise the postal service. The Postal Department will not be handed over to the private sector, said Minister of Mass Communication Imthiaz Bakeer Marker.

Speaking at a ceremony after placing the foundation stone for the proposed postal complex, the Minister said this year allocations have been made to construct 21 post offices islandwide out of which six will be in the Kalutara district. Kalutara district MP P.D. Abeyratne said although he was not satisfied with the project being carried out with loans, he was happy that the postal complex was being set up in Kalutara.

More facilities within the town limits mean more productivity for the people, he said.

The Maha Sangha including Ven. Ingiriye Vipulasara Thera, Viharadhipati of Imagira Bodhiraja Viharaya were present.
