by our parliamentary correspondents

A parliament Select Committee has been appointed by speaker Joseph Michael Perera to investigate and report on alleged misconduct of Bribery Commissioner Kingsley Wickremasooriya.

The speaker informed Parliament yesterday that this Select Committee will be chaired by Minister Thilak Marapana.

It comprises six members namely Ministers M.H. Mohamed, Hemakumara Nanayakkara MPs Dinesh Gunawardena, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Ravindra Randeniya and Sunil Handunetti.

The speaker said the committee is required to investigate and report to parliament on the allegations referred to in a Resolution placed on the Order paper on February 20.

The resolution signed by 76 Government members including senior Ministers addresses the president to remove Wickremasooriya from the commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and corruption, on the ground of misconduct.

Speaker Joseph Michael Perera said the Select Committee was appointed according to the powers vested in him in terms of the Standing Order No. 78 A (2) of Parliament.
