Indices up, turnover Rs 59 m

For the second successive day, the Colombo Bourse recorded slight increases in its indices yesterday. The ASPI increased to 769.4 from 766.6 and the Milanka index to 1,295.5 from 1291.5.

The turnover decreased to Rs. 59 million from Rs. 70.56 million. Buying was mainly witnessed on selected stocks.

The highlight of the day's trading was the changing hands of over 4.6 million of Ruhunu Hotel shares at Rs. 4.25 per share. There was a also a foreign to foreign transaction of 220,000 shares of JKH at Rs. 72.50. These two transactions dominated trading on the market. Otherwise it was quiet day of trading, Bartleet Mallory Stockbrokers said in a statement.

The JKH transaction accounted for the 'lion share' of foreign activity. A net foreign outflow of Rs. 0.7 million was recorded for the day with foreign purchases and sales accounting for 33.3% and 34.5% of the day's turnover.

The top five gainers included Serendib Hotels, Agalawatte, Udapussellawa and Kelani Valley.
