Surge in yachts calling at Galle Harbour

The Galle Harbour is thriving again as a paradise for tourists arriving in the island on yachts. January saw a sudden surge in yachts calling at the Galle harbour totalling 103 compared with 92 during 2002, according to harbour authorities. These tourists were mainly from the USA, England, Australia, Germany and Switzerland. This follows the successful peace talks between the Government and the LTTE. The number of tourists visiting the country improved significantly during this winter season and tourism industry officials hope that the positive trend would continue. The Galle harbour and suppliers of goods and services in the South had benefited immensely following the increased number of yachts sailing to Galle. Here some tourists sail towards the harbour and tourists enjoy the conclusion of a successful journey at the harbour.
