Deheragoda wins first championship event with ease

Dinesh Deheragoda took the first step forward last Sunday when he drove his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII in style to take first place in the championship event for cars 1665 cc up to 3600 cc. E. Deivan was his closest second in a Honda Civic.

Deheragoda who was declared the champion driver for 2002 in on his way for the second title this year got off to flying start winning this event, the first championship race for the year 2003. The championship is organised by Sri Lanka Association for Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDAR).

He is expected to continue his true form when he competes this Sunday at Katukurunda circuit. The first event he did not face stiff competition as last year's closest challenger Aravinda Premadasa skipped the race and is expected to pose the challenge this Sunday. Deheragoda is expected to drive the latest model of the evolution family very soon on local tracks.

Dilantha Malagamuwa who holds a international racing licence failed to participate in the motor car events but performed well on to wheelers winning the open event and the 125 cc racing event.

Bri Ponnambalam a veteran on the local circuit also came up with a good performance to win two events. Damian Gunetilleke won the modified 125 cc event pushing young Gayan Sandaruwan to second place.

Sandaruwan was outstanding in the novices 125 cc event winning it with ease.
