Pramuka Bank fiasco : Former WPC Minister to appear before CID

by Sarath Malalasekera

Former People's Alliance Western Provincial Minister wanted by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in connection with the Pramuka Bank fiasco, has informed the CID that he will appear before them on his return from abroad next week.

The special CID team investigating into the alleged malpractices at the Pramuka Bank said that the politico, a senior member of the PA, had deposited a large sum of money at Pramuka Bank and obtained 'Gold Certificates.'

The CID has already questioned several senior government officers who are alleged to have deposited state funds in Pramuka and obtained 'Gold Certificates.'

The CID earlier filed a report in connection with their ongoing investigations before the Maligakanda Magistrate and Additional District Judge Ms. Kusala Sarojini Weerawardena.

Former Chairman and Managing Director of Pramuka Bank Rohan Perera and several other senior officers were directed to appear in court when noticed.

On an application by the CID, the Judge directed the case to be called on March 28, 2003.
