SLIA Annual sessions from Feb 19-23

The Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA) will conduct their Annual Sessions at the BMICH from February 19 to 23. This year the sessions will consist of the Inauguration ceremony, National conference on architecture on a theme urbanisation housing and reconstruction, members' work exhibition, trade exhibition, Career guidance program for prospective students and a free housing advisory panel for the public, President SLIA, Dudley Waas to the media.

The sessions will commence at the BMICH on February 19 with the opening of the Members' Works and Trade Exhibition by the Chief Guest Ravi Karunanayake, Minister of Trade and Consumer Affairs, and the Guest of Honour Ranjith Cooray, the Mayor of Kotte, who is also a member of the SLIA.

The ceremonial inauguration of the session will be on February 20 opened by Chief Guest Karu Jayasuriya, Minister of Power and Energy. S. M. A. R. Thondaman, Minister of Plantation Infrastructure and Housing, and the Mayors of Colombo and Kotte who are Architects by profession, Prasanna Gunawardana, Mayor of Colombo and Ranjith Cooray, Mayor of Kotte, will be the Guests of Honour, Waas told a press conference in Colombo last week.

The national conference of Architecture, which is held every year by the SLIA on a theme important for the national development, will this year concentrate on reconstruction. It will be inaugurated by M. H. Mohamed, Minister of Western Region Development on February 21. Several foreign architects have been invited to speak.

The key note speaker at the Inauguration will be Archt Charles Correa, a renowned architect from India. Archt Balbir Verma, President of the Indian Institute of Architects, Archt Dr. Souheil El Masri, a specialist on reconstruction, Archt Devendra Nath Gongal, Chairman, SAARCH and President of the Society of Nepalese Architects, Arjunna Mahendran, Chairman, Board of Investment will attend as special guests.
