The Federated States of Micronesia Telecommunications Corporation (FSM Telecom) in the Pacific Islands has decided to implement a new generation of Customer Care and Billing Solutions - AvaBill System, a suite of software products designed and developed by Informatics which is the owner and integrator of the entire solution.

The US$ 2 million contract will be a significant boost to the local software industry as a whole in keeping with the Government's ICT policy and the e-Sri Lanka initiative. The AvaBill System is successfully installed and running at some of the world's leading telecom operators and their subsidiaries such as Cable Wireless of UK, NTT of Japan, Telia of Sweden and Millicom of Luxembourg. Informatics has implemented Customer Care and Billing Systems in the Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Asia Pacific Region and now adds Micronesia to its Country portfolio.

The new solution will replace FSM Telecoms existing legacy system and will be implemented in six months. "We evaluated a number of internationally reputed Customer Care and Billing Systems from USA, New Zealand and Australia and selected Informatics AvaBill software product, because it provides the required functionalities to meet current and future requirements of FSM Telecom," said a spokesperson for FSM Telecom.

One of the objectives of FSM Telecom was the need to select a flexible solution that caters to convergent billing. This would enable them to enhance customer care capabilities and its image as one of the leading Telecom Operators in the Pacific region providing cutting edge services. Thus, AvaBill/Informatics solution was selected along with an integrated, carrier class platform for managing the subscribers.

The AvaBill Customer Care and Billing System will provide Real Time Convergent Billing solutions along with a Total End to End Solution to FSM Telecom. The key areas to be addressed are On-line Provisioning, On-line Mediation, On-line Credit Control, Trouble Tickets, Telecom Inventory, International Settlements, Calling Cards and SIM Cards, Web Self Care, On-line Payments/Cashiering, a Directory Listing System and a comprehensive Service Order Management System for Fixed Line, GSM Mobile, Internet Services, Cable TV and Data Services in a converged operation.

FSM Telecom is the National Telecommunications provider to the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). Owned by the Government of FSM, it provides Fixed Line /Land Line Services, Mobile Services (GSM), Internet Services (ISP) and Cable TV Services to the entire population of the FSM. Currently FSM Telecom is looking to provide on-line, convergent telephony services to its Customers.
