by Nadira Gunatilleke Human Resources Development, Education and Cultural Affairs Ministry will hold a meeting of Cultural Affairs Ministers of SAARC countries from February 3 to 7 in Colombo, a Cultural Affairs Division spokesman said. He said the meeting will be held in accordance with the decision at the meeting of Cultural Ministry Secretaries of SAARC countries held in Sri Lanka in 2001. Eminent persons in the cultural field in these countries will participate. Sri Lanka will host the meeting of SAARC Cultural Ministers and other SAARC member countries have confirmed participation of their cultural ministers. Prior to the Ministers' meeting a meeting of experts in the cultural field of SAARC countries will be held on February 3 at 9.30 am at Hotel Lanka Oberoi. Several Sri Lankan artistes will also participate. The SAARC Cultural Ministers' meeting will be held from February 5 to 7 at Hotel Lanka Oberoi. The meeting will be inaugurated on February 5 at 10 am under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and participation of Human Resources Development, Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Dr. Karunasena Kodithuwakku. It is expected to discuss topics such as establishment of the SAARC Cultural Centre in Sri Lanka, development and efficient administration of archaeological and museums, preservation of cultural heritage of SAARC countries and promotion of the cultural ties between SAARC and programmes to be planned towards this end at the meeting. |
