An armed gang yesterday set fire to a four storeyed building and two other buildings of a wood factory at Kahathuduwa, Polgasowita, causing extensive damage. Kahathuduwa Police suspect that this was an arson attack. It could be a 'contract' arranged by a competitor, they said. The four member gang had arrived at the factory in a black car and tied two security guards after assaulting them. They had then entered the premises, placed petrol bottles with firecrackers at several points in the building and lit the firecrackers which resulted a massive fire. However, Kahathuduwa Police with the Fire Brigade and Air Force controlled the fire, which damaged machinery and products worth millions of rupees. There were no casualties. Mt. Lavinia SSP W.P. Dayaratne has deployed two Police teams to nab the gang. |
