Information Technology must be pushed by all not only for their own betterment but also for the progress of the country, said the Minister of Central Region Development Tissa Attanayake. He made these observations when he opened a new complex of the Upcountry Manpower (Pvt.) Limited, Kandy at Sri Amarawansa Mawatha in Dangolla, Kandy. Attanayake said that the Upcountry Manpower (Pvt.) Ltd. is doing a great service to the country by exploring the foreign employment market and providing the people of the country with opportunities to obtaining foreign employment which will bring future stability and foreign exchange for the country. The Minister also handed travel tickets to 30 teachers from Sri Lanka who had been found employment in the Maldives by the Upcountry Manpower Limited. The Chairman/Managing Director of the Upcountry Manpower Limited Edward Weerasinghe said that in addition to the IT Centre, they will be also open the Hampstead International School on January 15 at the same complex. The opening of the IT centre will further improve their chances. The IT school will be run with Malaysian collaboration. This company has won the silver award for the most number of skilled workers sent for foreign employment, a Silver award for the widest number of market (foreign employment) and a gold award in 2001 for Most Outstanding Foreign Employment Organisation by the Ministry of Labour. |
