by Maskeliya group correspondent The Maskeliya branch of People's Bank has granted a loan of two million rupees to 77 small-scale traders of Nallathannie area to run a business during the Sri Pada season for six months from December 2002 to May 2003. This loan is granted under the Rural Bank Innovations Project aided by People's Bank, for the second year. This loan is granted on a low rate of interest. R. M. Dayawanse, Manager of the Maskeliya Branch of People's Bank told the 'Daily News' that this is the 2nd year loans were granted to a large number of traders during Sri Pada season. The traders are doing their business on the route from Deilhouse (Nallathannie) to the Maha Maluwa. He added that similar loan facilities were granted to traders last year and it ended with a great success to the branch. Our branch is dedicated to help the poor residents of the area. M. G. Rathnapala, Business Promotion Officer attached to the branch is appointed to look after the Sri Pada Seasonal Traders. |
