Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker will be in Colombo on January 13 to announce the introduction of daily flights between Doha and Colombo.

While in Sri Lanka Al Baker will have talks with local aviation authorities and other top government officials to discuss future co-operation between Qatar Airways and the Sri Lankan Government.

Accompanying Al Baker will be Qatar Airway's General Manager Commercial, Mohamed Fakhri. Al Baker will announce additional flights between Qatar and Sri Lanka on Tuesdays and Saturdays. "Colombo is the latest Qatar Airways destination to have an increase in flight frequencies" said Ravi Goonetilleke, Managing Director of Delmege Forsyth Tours (Pvt) Ltd. GSA for Qatar Airways in Sri Lanka. "For Colombo this will mean a daily flight to Doha with convenient connections to European and Middle Eastern destinations.

"While other airlines have been restricting their services, Qatar Airways continues to expand to become one of the fastest growing airlines in the world. "Not only have seven new destinations been added to Qatar Airway's network last year, but frequencies on key routes have been increased.

"Qatar Airways will increase its fleet to more than 30 aircraft and increase the number of destinations to 50 by the Year 2005", said Goonetilleke. Al Baker has positive plans for Qatar Airways in Sri Lanka and his visit is well timed.
