'CSSL can play major role in promoting IT' Chandana Weerasinghe, Engineering Manager at DMS Electronics Ltd was unanimously elected as President of the Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL) at the Society's Annual General Meeting recently. He succeeds Niranjan De Silva, who stepped down after presiding over the affairs of the CSSL for the last two years. Weerasinghe outlined plans to aggressively market the Society's activities and its membership in the coming year and stressed the need to widen the membership base of the CSSL so that it would be a strong professional body representing the interests and the development of the IT profession in Sri Lanka. He acknowledged the work that had been done by successive Presidents and their Councils to place the CSSL on a firm financial footing, which provides a strong foundation to grow the society's activities. He said that at a time when the government had recognised the unique role of IT in the nation's development through the e-Sri Lanka program the CSSL could play a major role in helping to achieve the objectives of this program.
