"Arts and crafts of a nation shows its civilisation"

Traditional crafts, arts and culture of a nation shows its civilisation. The economics growth of a nation without the aesthetical development will not make history," the Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Samurdhi Affairs, U. N. Rodrigo said assuming duties as the Director of Gramodaya Kala Kendraya, Battaramulla recently.

Rodrigo further said: "We must teach our heritage to our younger generation. We possess an unblemished history and culture which is not second to any other nation in Asia. It is a pride for us. Buddhism and the Buddhist way of living gave all this gifts for us."The Minister of Samurdhi and Agriculture, S. B. Dissanayake takes much interest over this sector. His vision is to restore and rebuild Gramodaya Jana Kala Kendraya."

The Project Director of Jana Kala Kendraya, Bandara Eheliyagoda pointed out that the six months handicraft courses should be extended to at least for one year course in the future.

He emphasised that the certificate issued after training should be accepted in providing employment to the youth.

The Deputy Director, Cyril Dharmawardana and the officer-in-charge of the centre, Mrs. Janaki Gunawardana also spoke.
