Housing scheme for 104 fisher families

Fishery industry occupies a predominant place in the development process of a country. Facilities to improve knowledge, talents and concepts,as well as the expansion of the market, protection of resources and provision of processing devices are the essentials for those presently engaged and for those who hope to pursue the fishery industry, said Fisheries and Ocean Resources Minister Mahinda Wijesekera addressing a ceremony to allocate 104 plots of housing land to fisher families in Nugagahahena of Bandirippumulla in the Weligama Electorate.

The ceremony held at the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha Auditorium was attended by Southern Provincial Council Member Ajith Wijesekera, Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Sunil Edirisinghe, Fisheries Corporation Vice Chairman Madhurapala Ediriweera and Fisheries Directress Neela Gunasekera.

Addressing further, Minister Wijesekera observed that the recent Fishery Act envisages the achievement of these objectives which will contribute towards solving the unemployment problem to a great extent.

The proposed Housing Scheme consisting of 104 houses will be provided with infrastructure facilities including a road network, water supply, electricity, a community hall, a new Buddhist shrine room and pre- schools. In addition,the Fishery Ministry will gift Rs.25000/- to each of the beneficiaries in five instalments of Rs.5000/ to go ahead with construction work.
