The Plantation Industries Ministry will launch a five-year programme to recover the massive damage caused by war to the country's coconut cultivation, especially in the North-East. Plantations Minister Lakshman Kiriella at a meeting in Jaffna to discuss the development of the coconut industry and replanting programmes in the area, said more than 20,600 acres of coconut cultivations in five districts have been destroyed. The Ministry will take steps to recover these losses. "The Ministry will supply equipment to uproot the damaged coconut trees and supply coconut plants to the growers," the Minister said. |
