by Rajmi Manatunga The listing of the seven remaining CTB cluster bus companies scheduled for December 30 has been postponed to January, the Public Enterprise Reform Commission (PERC) said. PERC sources told the Daily News that it was appropriate to postpone the divestiture to January 2003 as December is a festive month with several holidays. The companies to be listed in January are Vavuniya, Northern, New Eastern, Ruhuna, Nuwara Eliya, Uva and Wayamba bus companies which did not receive eligible bids at the October 31 listing. "The Ministry and the Public Enterprise Reform Commission (PERC) decided to re-advertise the companies since the bidders who had expressed interest in them in October were unable to show the required turnover. The period for submitting bid bonds for the divestiture ended Saturday evening," Transport Ministry sources said. Bidders are required to submit a bid bond equivalent to five per cent of the minimum bid price and the prospective investor will be handed over 39 per cent of shares and management of the companies. Soldier missing A soldier of the Army detachment in Ranabapura, about 9 Km north of Welioya, is missing since yesterday morning. According to colleagues, the soldier had gone about 50-75 metres away from the point where he was performing duties with his personal weapon, avoiding the inundated area around 10.30 am. He has not returned afterwards. |
