Shantha Kumara - first Lankan to win a trip to Cricket World Cup V. A. Shantha Kumara, a 31-year-old from Alawathugoda has become the first Sri Lankan to win an all-expenses-paid trip to next year's cricket World Cup finals in South Africa, courtesy Gillette, the world's top-selling razor. All he did was buy a 'Gillette 2' Razor worth Rs. 25 and send in a coupon for the draw. Shantha's winning coupon was drawn from thousands sent in by users of Gillette disposable razors, at the first weekly draw of the 'Gillette Fly to the Finals" promotion. Two of Sri Lanka's most accomplished fast bowlers, Pramodya Wickremasinghe and Nuwan Zoysa participated in the draw at which a total of 113 coupons won prizes. The Gillette Company represented in Sri Lanka by Walker & Greig will draw one winner every week for the next 10 weeks to select the rest of the 11-member "squad" that the company will sponsor to the World Cup final. Each winner will receive an air ticket, free hotel accommodation and a match ticket to the finals, the company said. To participate in these draw, users of Gillette disposable razors have to send in coupons available at retailers throughout Sri Lanka along with the plastic cap that forms part of the razor's packaging. The 'Gillette Fly to the Finals' promotion is the only promotion of its kind that offers a high value prize in conjunction with a low priced fast moving consumer product. "We will make a dream come true for 11 lucky Gillette users in Sri Lanka," Gillette's Country Manager in Sri Lanka Rajeev Khandelwal said. |
