President shocked at Colombo fire

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has expressed her profound sorrow and shock over the death of 19 persons in the fire which broke out in four storey building at Gaswork street. She has expressed grief to the relatives of the victims which wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

"It is unfortunate to hear about such tragic incidents during this time of Christmas and New year. The incident has stressed for the public and the authorities to be ever vigilant at a time when a large mass of people flock the city which also has been illuminated," the President states.
