by Sarath Malalasekera Supreme Court Judge, Justice S.W.B. Wadugodapitiya, President's Counsel, retired from the service after serving 12 years as a Judge of the Supreme Court. Justice Wadugodapitiya who holds a Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B) and a Master of Laws Degree (LL M) was appointed to the Supreme Court Bench on January 10, 1991. Prior to that, he served in the Attorney General's Department, for 25 years ending his career as Solicitor General and having served as Acting Attorney General on several occasions. Whilst in the AG's Department Justice Wadugodapitiya was appointed as a one-man Commissioner of the Mossad Commission and also served as a Commissioner of the Law Commission. Justice Wadugodapitiya was also a member of the Judges Institute of Sri Lanka, and the Council of Legal Education of Sri Lanka. On September 19, 2002 Justice Wadugodapitiya was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga during the absence of Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva who was out of the country on an official visit. Justice Wadugodapitiya was on the Bench for the last time with Justice D.P.S. Gunasekera and Justice Ameer Ismail at the oaths ceremony of 335 new Attorneys-at-Law last Friday. |
