German professor robbed of cash, valuables

A visiting German professor had complained to the Narahenpita police that he had been robbed of his cash and valuables worth over Rs.300,000 from his car while it was lying in the premises of a fellow Sri Lankan Professor with whom he was temporarily residing in Narahenpita.

Micheal Albert, a professor at Asian Technical Institute was robbed between the hours of 10 pm and 6.30 am on Wednesday. According to the Narahenpita Police, the professor was on a visit to Sri Lanka and had stayed at his fellow Sri Lankan professor's residence. The professor had arrived in Sri Lanka on December 7.

The German professor had left $1550 together with Nokia mobile phone worth Rs. 30,000 and survey instruments in his car parked in the premises of local professor overnight. In the morning he had found out that the money together with other valuables were missing. The Sri Lankan professor also had lost a sum of $ 500 (SLR45,000), Police said. Narahenpita Police are yet to identify the suspects and are carrying out further investigations.
