by Ranga Jayasuriya

The UNHCR conference scheduled for today in Killinochchi on the repatriation of Sri Lankan refugees in Tamil Nadu was postponed due to flooding in the Wanni, a UNHCR spokesperson said.

"The flooding in the Wanni forced the conference to be put off for next month," the UNHCR Spokeswoman Branda Barrette told the Daily News.

The facilitation of the voluntary repatriation of Sri Lankan refugees in Tamil Nadu was to be discussed at the conference to which the Norwegian, Japanese and Indian diplomats were invited. An Indian embassy spokesman however ruled out Indian participation at the conference to which LTTE political Chief S.P Thamilchelvam was also invited

Peace Secretariat Chief Ambassador Bernard Gunatilake who co -heads the Sub Committee on Re-settlement and Immediate Humanitarian Needs with Thamilchelvam was also expected to be present.
