Chatting through the day!

"Goodbye dear," she said as she walked with him to the door."Goodbye," he said and waited as she hurriedly gave him the mandatory peck on his cheek. He walked down the steps to the car and there was sadness on his face. He knew that she would not come to the window to wave him goodbye as she used to. She would instead rush to the computer and put it on. He knew that his telephone line would be busy all day as she chatted online.

"Do you chat?" he had asked her once.

"Occasionally," she had lied. But the recent spate of phone calls in which the caller put down the phone as soon as he lifted it, told him another tale.

He arrived early at the office as surprisingly there were no jams. There was no one at the office, at least he thought so till he found John the office peon hovering over the computer. John was a peon, but had aspirations to become a clerk. This didn't bother anyone. What did was the fact that John acted as if he was already a managing director. He didn't lift a finger to help anyone, hardly did any work and for his size which was five feet nothing acted as if he was another King Kong. He had lately also decided to grow a moustache which was taking its own sweet time to blossom and at the moment looked like a shorn garden hedge.

"What are you doing so early?" he asked John.

"Working on the computer sir", said John.

"Doesn't look like work to me. Looks like you are just whiling away your time"

"I am making the world happy", said John.

"And how may I ask are you doing that?"

"I chat with women online and pretend that I am a great psychiatrist or he man and they are so happy being with me, that their day's fantasy is fulfilled..!"

"Would you have the guts to meet any of them and show them what you really are?'

John sat silent for a moment "There's a women sir who I think has fallen for me. She wants to meet me. I have told her that I am six feet tall and good looking. But I don't think that matters. She will fall for me anyway." "Meet her then. I would like to come and see you doing so".

He watched as John typed out the message. They drove in his car to the nearby park . He watched as John got out of his car and walked in. He was curious and wanted to see what reality was against the fantasy of a chat. He gasped as he saw who it was.

She looked up to see her six foot hero ,and saw Little John instead.

"My dearest", said John and watched with dismay as the woman fled. She ran as if a lion was after her. He walked into the house that evening. There was a cup of tea and pastries laid out for him.

"How was work?" she asked ruffling his hair..

"Good," he said, "and how was your chatting today?"

"I've given the computer away", she said simply , and he smiled, as she put his arms round him and gave him a hug.He gave the forlorn John a bonus the next day.
