HSBC takes Mercantile Tennis Title from NDB Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation made certain of the Mercantile Tennis title by taking a commanding lead over defending champions National Development Bank in the penultimate round of matches worked off at the weekend on the SLTA courts. With the finals of only two events Mixed Doubles and over 35 Doubles to complete, HSBC have totalled 175 points, a strong 52-point lead over two-time winner NDB (123 points). SriLankan Airlines are a distant third with 72 points. Dilshan Herath of Hong Kong Bank took the Men's Singles title when he beat Ganendran Subramaniam of R & G Sports 6-4, 5-7, 6-0. Meanwhile Senani Silva of National Development Bank continued her winning streak when she easily beat Dilini Sathkunarajah of HSBC 6-1, 6-0 in the Women's final. In the semi-finals Silva knocked out top seed Monica Manatunge of SriLankan Airlines 6-1, 6-0. The championship is the third since it was revived in 2000 after a near two-decade break. The remaining two finals are to be completed by this week and the awards ceremony has been scheduled for December 15 at the SLTA. The chief guest will be C. T. A.
