Saman and Kushani squash champs

The top seeds Saman Tillekeratne and Kushani Daluwatte clinched the men's and women's title respectively at the senior national squash championships concluded at the Sugathadasa indoor Stadium courts yesterday.

Tillekeratne beat the bottom seed Navin Samarasinghe in straight sets 9-2, 9-0, 9-2 in the men's final while Daluwatte beat the third seed Menusha Hettiarachchi also in straight sets 9-4, 9-0, 9-2 in the women's final. Earlier in the semifinals Menusha Hettiarachchi of Holy Family Convent created a major upset by overcoming the top seed Tehani Guruge 9-4, 9-5, 9-6.

In the other semifinal Kushani Daluwatte cruised to a convincing win over Dishna Ranjini. In the men's semifinals Saman Tillekeratne beat N. S. Jayashantha while Navin Samarasinghe had the better of E. Ravichandran.

In the men's over 45 final Col. Sarath Jayawardena beat Lakdasa Cooray 9-7, 9-3, 7-9, 9-2. The tournament was conducted by the Sri Lanka Squash Federation and sponsored by Sea Consortium Limited. (C.D).
