Zondeki strike helps South Africa restrict Sri Lanka BLOEMFONTEIN, South Africa, Dec 6 (Reuters) - Monde Zondeki struck with his first ball in international cricket as South Africa restricted Sri Lanka to 228 for eight in the fifth and final one-day international on Friday. Fast bowler Zondeki, just 20, removed Sri Lankan opener Marvan Atapattu (53), caught instinctively at first slip by Andrew Hall after wicketkeeper Mark Boucher juggled the ball. Although he played a poor shot to get out, Atapattu's class shone through another below par batting display in the series by the Sri Lankans. The right hander faced 63 balls and struck eight boundaries in a fluent and authoritative innings. Sanath Jayasuriya's decision to bat first on a lively track looked to have backfired early as Sri Lanka slumped to seven for two, the Sri Lankan captain making just two before carving Allan Donald to point and veteran Aravinda de Silva caught behind off Shaun Pollock for a duck. Pollock struck again in the same manner to dismiss Mahele Jayawardene (three), but after Zondeki's sensational start, Kumar Sangakkara and Russel Arnold (36) rebuilt well with a fifth-wicket partnership of 61. Sangakkara also added 56 runs for the sixth wicket with Thilan Samaraweera (33), but despite a six over point in the final over off Donald he struggled to accelerate in the closing overs. His unbeaten 77 came from 115 balls, including eight fours and a six. South Africa have an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series. SRI LANKA M. Atapattu c Hall b Zondeki 53 S.
