A series of 26 programs on Human Rights in Sri Lanka will be launched on Human Rights Day, December 10. The series is an innovative initiative in promoting human rights in this country. Developed from stories of victims and issues from all parts of Sri Lanka, it will be aimed at educating the general public on issues of human rights and their violations. The reports will be produced in all three languages, English, Sinhala and Tamil. "Right Now" will be aired every Thursday at 7.30 p.m. on TNL on the YATV, Space to let series. The series has been produced by the Institute of Human Rights and Young Asia Television (YATV) with financial support from the Governance and Institutional Strengthening Project (GISP). The programs will promote organisations providing redress to victims of human rights violations. It is to be developed and distributed as an educational tool for human rights educators in Sri Lanka. The series will feature women's rights through programs on sexual harassment, women in the workforce and women in politics. The conflict situation has been represented through programs on landmines, issues of accountability and internally displaced persons. Rights of the marginalised have been highlighted through programs on differently abled persons, street children and the elderly. HIV/AIDS torture, the environment, corruption, right to information and similar issues faced by the Sri Lankan public today are the focus of these programs. |
