Ampara District sub-committee which met at Akkaraipattu Divisional Secretariat Cultural hall on Saturday to submit recommendations to the sub-committee on Deescalation and normalisation, as per peace talks between Government and LTTE held in Thailand held a cordial and friendly discussion with mutual understanding between LTTE and Government. The meeting took place in a very friendly manner.

The meeting chaired by Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission's (SLMM) Head of District Karl Juliussion was attended by Secretary of Defence Austin Fernando, LTTE delegation headed by Kowsalyan, Head of Political Wing Batticaloa, Members of the SLMM and Representatives of Government of Sri Lanka.

The following matters were discussed at this meeting:

Public and private buildings occupied by STF in Ampara District, Status of schools occupied by STF in Ampara District, Improvement of transportation by lifting road blocks, normalisation regarding the Muslim community, land disputes in Selvaveli, Veeramunai Vattamadu and Kolikkal, resettlement of internally displaced people, working relations of LTTE and STF and confidence building and organisational arrangements for security enhancement, resettlement and rehabilitation.

LTTEs Head of Political Wing, Ampara Wawa, Ampara Commander - Jonanthan, Ampara Political Wing - Seetha, Batticaloa/Ampara Political Wing - Banuka, Sri Lanka Government Delegation Representatives - Brigadier Sumith Balasuriya, 23 Div., GP Captain Kolitha Gunatilake - SLAF, Ampara, Government Agent - L.S.C. Sriwardena, former SSP M.A. Abdul Majeed, Nimal Leuke SSP DC - STF were also present at this meeting while SLMM were represented by Pekka Vihervas (Legal Advisor), Teitur Torkelesson (Pio - SLMM) and Edgar Kloevfgell (SLMM Monitor Do6).

K.M.L. Sarathchandra SSP Director, S. Ediriwickrama SSP Ampara, Col. Mohan Jayawardena OC Troops, Ampara, U.P. Piyadasa DS Uhana, W.K. Sirisena ASP - STF Pottuvil, A.Y.A.S. Karunaratna ASP STF Maha Oya, W.J. Jagodaarachchi ASP Ampara, W.P. Wimalasena ASP STF, Kattankudy, Lt. Col. K.P.A. Jayasekera HQ 23 Div., P. Edema ASP STF, Ampara and Wing Commander F. Hashim SLAF, Ampara were among those present at this meeting.

It is the evaluation of the SLMM at the meeting, both parties have established a good working relationship which will be to the direct benefit of the public in Ampara District.
