No LTTE demand for withdrawal of Forces, STF camps - govt

The government yesterday reiterated that the LTTE has not made any demand for the withdrawal of any Security Forces or STF camp or police station from their present locations as reported in some newspapers.

The Defence Ministry in a news release issued late last night said some news reports had misreported the proceedings and recommendations made by the Ampara District Committee for De-Escalation and Normalisation held on November 23.

It said the police were not asked to vacate the Kalmunai rest house building. It was decided to hand over the building to the Kalmunai local authorities for business purposes as it was not being used by the Security Forces or the STF.

The STF has also decided to relocate the Tirukkovil camp to a nearby location. Relocation will not cause a security problem and will in fact strengthen security, the release added.

The government delegation also insisted that humps on roads near security forces camps should remain.
