Deepika wins two TT titles Deepika Rodrigo of Lake House won a double at the senior national table tennis championships concluded at the Sugathadasa indoor Stadium yesterday. Deepika Rodrigo won the women's singles by defeating Kalpani Herath of Girls High School Kandy 11-6, 4-11, 4-11, 2-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-5. She also bagged the mixed doubles title along with her partner Indika Prasad beating the combination of Rifkha Kameel and Thilina Piyadasa 11-4, 11-7, 14-12 in the final. In the women's doubles final Kalpani Herath and Upeka Kotinkaduwa beat Saranga de Silva and Madushika Kottegoda 11-6, 11-9, 11-7. Rohan Sirisena and Thilina Piyadasa clinched the men's doubles title overcoming Nuwan Sampth and Indika Prasad 11-8, 11-6, 10-12, 9-11, 11-9. K. S. T. Chalitha of Citi Bank won the men's singles title defeating Rohan Sirisena of Three Star SC 11-5, 11-8, 11-6, 11-4 in the final. Rohan Sirisena was selected as the best senior player and Sajith Priyadarshana of Devananda College was selected as the best junior player. In addition Thilina Piyadasa was named most outstanding player for the year 2002. C.D |
