Women workers at a production line of the Noritake Lanka Porcelain (Pvt) Ltd. The company was established in 1972 as a joint venture with Ceylon Ceramic Corporation (75% shares),  and at present Noritake has become the major shareholder of the company. The company provides employment to over 1,200 people and exports 11.5 million pieces of Porcelain tableware totalling Rs. 500 million to countries such as the US, Canada and United Kingdom. 

Budget sways market

Share prices declined as the government's fiscal plans adversely affected some selected sectors. Banking stocks suffered the most as the sector index slipped 41 points on Thursday after the budget. The ASPI and MILANKA recorded a marginal dip of 6.61 and 24.98 points to close at 810.62 and 1352.07 points respectively.
