Gampola special correspondent The police has launched the triple concept of village, temple and police to safeguard the country from crime, said Central Province Deputy Inspector General of Police Nimal Mediwaka. Speaking at a meeting to educate members of Peace Committees selected from 89 grama niladhari zones of Uda Palata Provincial Secretary's Division in Gampola electorate recently. Mediwaka said due to the efficiency of villagers, there was tremendous development. The public should not be afraid of police. The temple, village and police concept should get together and help police, he told the meeting at Wickramabahu National School. He said drug abuse is becoming the biggest problem in the country. It can harm the present and the future generations. It is a threat to the nation's health, the DIG said. Central Province Chief Minister W. P. B. Dissanayake said the main causes for crime are alcohol and heroin. "Our peace committee members should be prepared to join police to make the triple concept, village, temple and police successful," he said. |
