Interior Minister John Amaratunga yesterday directed the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) investigating the attack at the Trans Asia Hotel on Sunday to arrest any persons irrespective of their position allegedly involved in the incident. Earlier IGP T.E. Anandarajah directed the investigating team to collect all evidence against the suspects and produce them before court. The CCD upto last Saturday have arrested nine suspects in connection with the attack including several bodyguards of leading businessman Ravi Wettasinghe. The Police also arrested the driver of the vehicle in which the attackers are alleged to have arrived at the hotel on the day of the incident. The driver and the other suspects were later produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Priyantha Fernando and remanded pending the completion of an identification parade. The police also recovered a firearm from the possession of one suspect in remand custody. Inspector Nuwan Wedasinghe, OIC, CCD who produced the suspects in court said that the suspects have to be produced for an identification parade before the complainant and moved court to remand some of them until, today, November 11.
