By Asanga Warnakulasuriya and Alex David

Browns Beach Hotel Negombo has organised an All Island Kite Festival on November 23 together with Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL), ETV and Raja FM. The festival will provide a good opportunity to all schoolchildren in and around Negombo to display their creativity.

After the successful kite festival held last year with over 250 participants, the organisers have decided to make this festival a islandwide national event.

Around 500 participants from various age groups will represent their kites in eight different categories. The eight categories will namely be, the longest kite, the widest kite, Best TV (ETV) programme kite, Best nickelodeon kite and Best ANCL kites representing Daily News, Dinamina, Silumina and Sunday Observer. There will also be awards to most creative sponsor kite and most creative ad agency kite.

Speaking at a press briefing held at the Browns Beach Hotel, General Manager, Felix Rodrigo said, "The All Island Kite Festival will not going to be just another kite festival where parents will get bored". "This event will be family get-together with competitions like Best Belly, Best Leg, Beach Queen, Best Hairstyle and etc. will provide an entertainment for the whole family", he said.

The festival will commence at 2.00 pm, starting with the competitions and Bands Ebony and DJ Manju will provide entertainment. Minister of Sports, Johnston Fernando will be the chief guest.
