The Rana Viru Seva Authority (RVSA) has requested the public and the traffic police to give special consideration to persons with physical disabilities including disabled soldiers driving vehicles under special driving licences issues to them after a proper training and testing. The RVSA in a press release said the vehicles driven by such persons are specially designed to suit the disability of the particular person. This project is implemented to ease the needs of disabled persons including war heroes and to provide some self employment opportunity for them Certain traffic police officers had recently stopped a vehicle driven by a disabled person and abused him. Such incidents which cause mental frustration to the disabled, when they need further encouragement is most regrettable. "We should not degrade their morale but instead we should appreciate their courage", the release adds. |
