by Florence Wickramage The Gangaramaya Tusker Ruwan Raja who carried the casket of the sacred Tooth Relic at the Sri Dalada Maligawa's Esela Perahera is well on the road to recovery. Ruwan Raja was reported critically ill and was lying at the Vihara Maha Devi Park. Chief Priest of the Gangaramaya, Ven. Galaboda Gnanissara Thera thereafter contacted Ayurvedha Physician Simon of Kapugoda and requested him to treat the animal. The physician diagnosed Ruwan Raja's ailments as rheumatism and stomach ache. The elephant was put on ayurvedha medicine and was fed guli and kalka inserted into buns and bread three times a day. In response to ayurvedha medicine which is said to have an immediate effect on the animal, Ruwan Raja was able to stand on his feet after being propped up. Ven. Galaboda Gnanissara Thera and mahout R.G.Peter expressed relief at the animal's recovery and said that the Ayurvedha medicine helped Ruwan Raja to stand up seven days after lying sideways in critical condition. |
