Polythene, liquor banned in Sri Pada

The Buddhasasana Ministry has banned pilgrims from carrying polythene covers, bags and liquor to Sri Pada during the current season.

The Ministry has instructed police to strictly enforce this rule.Buddhasasana Justice, Law Reform and National Integration Minister W. J. M. Lokubandara has taken this decision in response to a request made by the Sri Pada conservation committee led by the Chief Incumbent Ven. Handapangoda Wimalanayake Thera said a Ministry release yesterday.

Polythene has already caused environmental Problems in Sri Pada and its environs and it will take at least 20 years to undo this damage.

The Ministry requests the public to assist this noble endeavour to protect Sri Pada, from the polythene and liquor menace, the release added.
