by Sarath Malalasekera Another bodyguard of businessman Ravi Wettasinghe was arrested by the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) yesterday in connection with the attack at the Trans Asia Hotel, Colombo. The police also recovered a firearm from the suspect, believed to be the main culprit behind the attack in which 10 persons were injured. On an application by the CCD, Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Priyantha Fernando remanded the suspect till November 13 pending the completion of an identification parade. Earlier five bodyguards of businessman Ravi Wettasinghe, who were allegedly involved in the Sunday morning attack at the Trans Asia Hotel, were produced by the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) before the Judge and remanded till November 11 pending the identification parade. Inspector Nuwan Wedasinghe, OIC, CCD who produced the suspects in court said that the four suspects have to be produced for an identification parade and moved court to remand them till November 11. Colombo DIG Bodhi Liyanage revealed that a special police party is in Aluthgama to trace the main culprit behind the alleged attack. He too is a bodyguard of Ravi Wettasinghe, said a Senior Officer of the CCD. Investigations were handed over to the CCD on the Direction of IGP T. E. Anandarajah. Statements of businessmen Ravi Wettasinghe and Milinda Janaka Ekanayaka were also recorded by the CCD in connection with the attack. Director CCD SP Gamini Seneviratne and SP Bandula Wijewardena of the CCD are also assisting in the investigations. |
